You need the correct service manual and test equipment as well.
If you only play with the settings that you overmodulating stop and causing interference.
Word of advice, left alone, will be more harm than good. The radios are configured to run clean and reliable. If you only play with the settings you end up with poor sound (distortion) and the overheating of the last amplifier stage. When more power is what is obtained by a linear Amplfier and make sure that your relationship is less than 1.5:1 SWR
